Did everyone survive Valentine’s Day last week? I sure hope so. This was my first V-day as a single gal in quite some time and I was soo not looking forward to it. Luckily a sweet man in my life sent me flowers so I wouldn’t be sad. It was my dad. Ironically it made me cry, but they were happy tears so, you know, it’s fine.
I wanted to start up a fun and dynamic series so that I’m accountable for writing regularly and because I love talking about my favorite things. So without further ado here’s the first addition of my Friday favorites – aka a grab bag of things that made me happy this week.
Take Me Home Tonight
Yep, the 80s song by Eddie Money. I can’t stop listening to it. It makes me want to tease my hair, put on some spandex and date a guy with a mullet. It’s great for dancing around your room or belting in the car on road trips, but don’t get too excited if you’re into music videos because it didn’t quite deliver in my opinion. I looove 80s music videos. They get me really fired up.
Leather Leggings
I am now the proud owner of leather leggings in both black and burgundy and I’ve been wearing them nonstop these days. They’re perfect for working from home if you pair with a crew neck sweatshirt or hoodie, but they can also be sexy for a night out with some heeled booties, a tank and a cardigan.
The Power of Your Subconscious Mind Book
I finished this book this week and I really enjoyed it. It’s all about using the deeper part of your brain to override your (often erroneous) intellect and find solutions to problems. He talks about God a little bit in the book so it may not be your jam if you’re not religious, but I think the message can still get through and apply to everyone.
Boho Beautiful Ab Workouts
This 10 minute workout hurts like a mother so you know it’s working. Three years ago, one of my friends turned me on to this pilates and yoga channel and I’ve been doing her videos ever since. They’re challenging and will have you sweating even though most of them are low impact and under 20 minutes. This particular 10 minute sesh is pure agony at the end. Don’t believe me? Ask my abs how much they’re hurtin’.
The movie Life Itself
I watched this movie on Amazon and absolutely loved it. I don’t usually like stories that follow multiple characters (this one follows four), but this film was an exception. It’s about tragedy, love, and life not going the way you expected it to. The first half is in English and the second half is in Spanish (with subtitles), which made me love it even more. Watch it. You’ll cry. But watch it.
Benefit Roller Lash Mascara
I usually don’t splurge on makeup because I think you can find whatcha really need at the drugstore. BUT I went to Ulta with my mom (I’m cool like that) and we both picked up this upscale mascara from Benefit. It actually works wonders on your lashes and essentially curls them while you apply. Genius.
This Quote By Rainer Maria Rilke
It pops up on the final screen of the movie JoJo Rabbit (another great film). It’s such a poetic philosophy for living life with less fear. You can also buy print versions for your home and I’m pretty sure I need one.
Let everything happen to you:
beauty and terror.
Just keep going.
No feeling is final.
Rainer Maria Rilka
I hope everyone has a great weekend! Stay safe, watch good movies and take care of yourself.
