When temperatures drop and leaving the house wearing a single layer becomes an option you won’t be able to revisit until after St. Patrick’s Day, your footwear inevitably becomes the pinnacle of your wardrobe. Without the right boots you’ll only get to enjoy the juicy layered looks of fall and winter fashion to a certain point. In order to help you maximize your wardrobe and avoid any closet breakdowns due to a lack of shoe options, I pulled together the ultimate list of five boot styles you need in your fall winter wardrobe to create endless outfits.
Classic Black Booties
The VIP boot of your fall wardrobe, classic black booties are ideal for creating casual elevated looks and sexy evening ensembles. You will wear them all the time so it pays to invest in a pair that will hold up. My favorite silhouette has a chunky heel that isn’t too high and is fitted around the ankle so that the shoes look sleek with a pair of tights. Sock booties are also a sexy option but for the most wear, go for a leather material.
Tan Booties
For those fits that are more neutral tones or colorful, tan colored booties are essential. Opt for a pair in leather or suede that will complement the denim wash you wear most often. If you’re a dark jeans kind of gal, a darker tan color like cognac is your best bet, while light wash denim looks better with beige hues.
Knee Boots
In my mind, these are also known as girl boss boots. They look fabulous with dresses, especially midi styles, and turn a pair of skinny jeans into a force to be reckoned with. You can throw these on with just about anything – midi and mini skirts and dresses, skinny jeans, or trousers (as long as they aren’t too baggy). AGain, my favorite silhouettes have a block heel that still allows you to walk easily (or run to catch a bus when you have too) and are more fitted through the calf. Black is the timeless pick but brown comes in with a close second. Pick your poison based on the dominant colors in your wardrobe.
Over-the-knee Boots
The sexy option for date nights and evenings where “cheers” will be a refrain, over-the-knee boots are the flirty girls’ outfit anthem. These look best with ultra feminine looks like skirts or shorts paired with sweaters and cardigans, or dresses with an it-girl attitude, but you can also layer them over contrasting denim for an everyday look. Top of the ensemble with a bodysuit, blazer and hoops. Voilà!
Combat Boots or Lug Sole Boots
Combat boots or lug sole boots are a godsend when you’re traveling or doing a lot of walking in the colder months. I love the way this style looks when paired with a girly dress or mini skirt for killer contrast. Choose a chunky pair to really make an impact.
Bonus Shoes You Don’t Absolutely Need BUT that are super fun and trendy right now 🙂
White Booties
I’m obsessed with white booties. These go-go inspired vibes set you apart and give an immediate edge to any outfit.
Cowboy Boots
They might actually be sexier in the summer with your daisy duke shorts for a concert, but funky cowboy boots are super trendy and unconventionally cool at the moment. I’d style them with a silky midi skirt and a turtleneck for a cute and eclectic look that just might say “this actually is my first rodeo.”
Mary Jane’s
The shoes you begged your mom not to make you wear in grade school are back, but this time, they’ve got even more straps and a heel. I’m loving the way this school-girl style looks with white socks and a skirt or dresses and stockings.
Loafers
The school girl allure continues in the form of chunky loafers. A bold shape with hardware on the top gives a slightly punk touch to this timeless style. Wear them with knee socks and a mini if you’re feeling brave or pair with white bobby socks and trousers for a more down-to-earth mood.
